For as long as I can remember, I’ve made up stories. I didn’t write them down when I was younger, but acted them out in my bedroom and backyard instead. Then, I discovered video games and books (not in that order,) and incorporated the stories I played and read into my imaginings. I would sit down and doodle elaborate bestiaries for my backyard games. I would draw maps of fantastic worlds and write short stories to go along with them. One in particular that I remember was called the Golden Knight, and boy was I proud of that one! Had sketches to go with it and everything.
Those drawings have long since rotted away in some landfill, and I’ve grown up. But I still write stories. I draw my monsters with words these days, although every now and then I will put pen to paper and sketch a map if a story demands it. Golden Knights and other high fantasy heroes have given way to everyday Joes and Janes, who despite being average are still faced with monsters as horrible as those the knights faced, only they have no magic swords or mighty wizards to call on for help.
Horror is the genre that chose me – I’m not convinced we writers, at the mercy of the Muse, get much choice in what we write – and the rollicking fantasy romps of my childhood years have gone by the wayside. I’m still convinced there is an epic fantasy trilogy somewhere in the depths of my subconscious, but then maybe that’s the Muse playing a trick on me.
In any case, horror is what I do. I enjoy it. It’s fun to look for the supernatural in daily life, to stir up this mundane world of ours and imagine the dark vistas beyond, where strange things lead lives so much different from our own. My horror concerns itself with the universes beyond sight and sound, worlds only seen with the eye of the imagination, and their interaction with the lives of unsuspecting people who are trying to eek along as best they can..
Bizarre? Maybe. But this world is a weird place, and my goal is to make it a bit stranger with each story I write.

Hi Andrew! I’ve awarded you with the Versatile Blogger Award! Check it out. :)
Thanks! :D. I’ll have to see about doing my part in this thing one of these days…I’m terrible about these things :P
You’re welcome! I know the problem. I’ve been awarded this award three times and only now reacted to it. Heck, I don’t even remember who awarded it to me the first time; it was months ago.
Hi there. I posted about your book at Lovecraft eZine today: http://lovecraftzine.com/2012/03/22/on-dark-paths-by-andrew-kincaid/ — should result in some well-deserved sales.
Thanks, Mike :D. I hear ya loud and clear on the point about me needing an editor. I didn’t have one on that book (although I had someone who made a few suggestions) but I did on the second one. I’ve someone lined up for my third anthology…maybe I’ll test her out by having her go back over my first one for me, haha. Funny how those typos managed to slip through – I’m almost certain sometimes that the process they use to convert the files over to ebook format will just randomly throw a typo, haha.
Oh and Lovecraft is awesome! One of my favorite horror authors. I do try to emulate him in a lot of my stories, especially in the first book. Thanks for reading!
